even though it’s december, it’s turning january in the magazine world and after a dismal end to 08, a few magazines are starting off the new year with some fresh faces and some not-so-fresh but shown in a new light.
harpers bazaar has victoria beckham on the cover, in a somewhat predictable spread. i adored her allure cover story and was hoping for some of that, but she wore her go-to designers (i did like the shot of her in the blue suit) and only had one image in her own collection. the real shining star of this issue is a 49 page editorial, shot by solve sundsbo featuring some of the brightest stars in modeling: taryn davidson, agnete hegelund, irinia kulikova, hanne gaby odiele, alyona osmanova, hye park, and my favorites, olga sherer, chanel iman and amanda laine.
it’s probably one of my favorite eds in the last few years, and what’s more surprising is that it’s in a mainstream fashion magazine. it reminds me of the david sims’ vogue paris eds from march and september 2005, featuring a bevy of supers and on-the-verge girls, some in color, some in black and white, but all gorgeous portraits that not only bring out the personality of the clothes but fit the girl. it could all have to do with stylist nicola formichetti, who is the style director for dazed & confused as well as vogue hommes japan. she takes this ed from something that could be boring to fashion forward and sundsbo, makeup artist petros petrohilos and hairstylist danilo elevate each in her own way, her best way.
also in this issue, is marc jacobs shot by terry richardson showing off (so to speak) the new vuitton/sprouse collection.
