gwen stefani hasn’t been working on any new music, because she’s pregnant with her second child. but that didn’t stop her from posing for v magazine’s spring fashion issue and photogs mert and marcus. there are three covers (like last month) and she looks hot in every one. the accompanying editoral pics are cool too, especially the milk one…quite reminiscent of madonna on her knees in the “express yourself” video.
inside, there is a great mix of eds featuring old and new faces. on the old side, kate moss is back in v with nick knight in “wildflowers,” an amazing ed where each pic stretch across two pages (and you know how big v is), and where kate looks graceful and ethereal. it’s my pic of the best ed of the year (so far). in “built for speed” (by david sims), natasa vojnovic (with new joan of arc bangs) explores her masculine side, and looks great. gisele poses for alasdair mclellan in “girl next door.” i love when gisele looks fresh and natural…she doesn’t look like any girl next door i know, but she does look less like a glamazon.
my favorite ed is “eyes for linda” by sebastian faena, with linda evangelista and raquel zimmerman. it’s based on the john carpenter movie the eyes of laura mars. linda is simply stunning in the lead role of a fashion photographer and raquel holds her own as one of the subjects. the styling is straight out of a guy bourdin pic…all moody and dramatic. in other words, perfect for v.
on the new side, freja shows off jewelry wearing paint (and not much else) in “rock steady” by mario sorrenti, cat mcneil’s “in your face” (by mario testino) is perfect to show off her one look, and jenny sweeney, chanel iman and abbey lee kershaw among others rock the latest bags in “bag ladies.” i wasn’t blown away by the last issue, but this one is truly special. pick it up…it’s on newsstands now.
