one of my favorite designers, roland mouret, is back with his new collection rm. the collection is back by american idol founder simon fuller, and features a very edited 22 looks that work mostly off the red carpet. it also features a more looser silhouette than one is used to seeing from mouret, whose galaxy gown was seen on just about every starlet a few years ago.
the looks were mostly black, white and gray with shots of blue, and featured intricate hemlines, pocket treatments, and interesting textured fabrics. some standouts for me were a knee length high neck dress with front darts, silk tulip hem skirts, electric blue zip front jacket and skinny ankle pants, a black & white checked trench, and a silk ruffled collar evening coat. the best thing about the collection? everything was interchangable, could work for work, weekend, and evening, and all the pieces had a sleekness about them that reminded me of some past narciso rodriguez collections. i was a fan of mouret’s before, but i found the silhouette was a bit too rigid for someone with my body type (ie, not kiera knightley). this was wearable, sleek, and sexy.

all of the pieces can be preordered at net-a-porter, although they won’t be delivered until november. i’m sure a piece or two will manage to pop up on a red-carpet, even if that’s not the original intention.
one of my fave 90s models malgosia, has returned to the scene, fronting ads for chloe (with another model icon, christy turlington) and jil sander, and turning up in eds all over the place.
