spring 2006 paris: ysl and lanvin.

yves saint laurent rive gauche designer stefano pilati presented another stellar collection for the house and continued to build on the traditions he started with the s/s and f/w 05 shows. certain things remained: the cinched waist, chunky heels, ruffled shirt bibs and balloon skirts. but he also referenced ysl’s 1976 spanish collection, adding matador pants trimmed in pom poms, narrow pencil skirts with flounced hems worn with cropped jackets, chiffon wraps and white trimmed capes. for evening, he presented interesting spanish takes on “le smoking,” and gorgeous red-carpet worthy evening gowns in black/white microdots, bordeaux, yellow, lilac, and white.

alber elbaz did away with the glitter and glitz and presented a much more pared down collection for lanvin. starting from the bottom up, with exquisite red, yellow, and green patent wood platform pumps, elbaz cut slim silk charmeuse dresses with cutout backs, obi waist wrapped jackets over slim trousers, and nipped waist dresses with black straps and dots. for evening, the skirts dragged the floor, but the top silhouette was the same: silk shirts and blouses, a strongly defined waist, or one shoulder knee length creations that hung loosely from the neck.
