spring/summer 2016 new york: public school.

#NYFW collections

i was really excited to go backstage at the public school show on my last full day in new york. it’s very cool to see how a beauty look comes together, and how it relates to the collection. maybelline’s grace lee used the new eye studio lasting drama gel pencil in cashmere white to draw horizontal lines across the lids using a very fine eyeliner brush. the lines “give you a hint of white when she blinks,” said lee, and mimic the architectural lines of the clothing. besides this, the faces were pretty simple—just black liner on the top of the eyes, some light contour, strong brows, and a nude lip. the hair, by aveda, was a sleek, twisted ponytail using aveda’s smooth infusion nourishing styling creme to keep hair smooth and shiny.

in terms of the collection, dao-yi chow and maxwell osborne kept things relaxed but still sophisticated and sexy. the looks included silk palazzo pants, long anoraks, drawstring waist dresses with deep v-necks, preppy openwork knits, and pleated skirts with chiffon panels. the ease in their collection is something i’ve already started embracing (like in my first three new york looks) and want to experiment with as it gets cooler (a relaxed trench is at the top of my wishlist).
