now that the dust has settled from raf simons’ first dior haute couture show, we’re seeing some of the looks turn up on the red carpet. rachel weisz, long a devotee to a more fitted silhouette (usually from narciso rodriguez), wore a black column to the new york premiere of the bourne legacy. while some didn’t like the pairing of a more playful shoe with the structured dress, i actually liked it, along with the matching red lip/nails. my main issue was with the length of the dress, which falls right below the knee on the model. marion cotillard, a face of the brand, picked a mixed tweed strapless dress for the london premiere of the dark night rises. like weisz, she choose a red lip that closely matched her minaudiere, and her orange-red pointy toe stiletto and minimal jewelry were the right finishing touches. and even though cotillard’s dress could also stand a slight hemming, it felt truer to the runway than weisz’s. no matter what, i do love seeing simons’ creations out and about (even if jessica biel wasn’t as successful).
