i know i’ve already posted a great list of fashion books that are perfect for holiday gifting, but there is one book that i’d want for my dream library and it’s pretty much everything, the compendium of work by photographers inez van lamsweerde and vinoodh matadin. inez and vinoodh, as they are known in fashion circles, are a dutch duo (and couple) that have been working together for nearly twenty years and their clients range from fashion (balenciaga, givenchy plus editorials for vogue paris and more) to music (bjork, lady gaga) to fine art.
i love their collaborations with m/m paris, (who also designed the book) with painting and digital manipulations on top of the photographs; they remind me of one of my favorite fine artists, robert rauschenberg). they bring an interesting, provocative and sometimes twisted perspective to their images, and this tome, which includes over 600 photos plus interviews, is the ultimate gift for the inez and vinoodh fan. don’t have a spare $700 lying around? here is a good second option.
“pretty much everything” by inez van lamsweerde and vinoodh matadin, $700 or $3,000 for the limited edition with two signed and numbered pigment prints
