since fashion week began a few weeks ago, i’ve been waiting for my “a-ha” moment. most of the new york shows left me feeling blah, and london has never been it for me. i thought, like spring, i’d have to wait for paris to see shows i truly was excited about. but then this morning, i was checking out burberry prorsum on thefashionspot and i saw there was some pics in of jil sander. sander has never been a label that i followed, although i have friends who are true sander devotees and cried when jil left the company. i wasn’t into raf simons first few collections for the house, but the spring show was full of sander’s trademark minimalism shot with gorgeous technicolor. for fall, simons continued in the same vein, adding interest through texture and keeping the palette muted (camel, charcoal, heather grey and black).
in addition to the slim suits, pants & coats and pleated sheaths, simons added waffle knit a-line skirts, high collar jackets (reminiscent of gucci f/w 03), metallic tweed elbow sleeve dresses, and asymmetrical closure tunics. i realized, if i had the money, i’d buy all of this. it’s the perfect fall wardrobe, complete with workwear, cocktail dresses, coats and gowns. a-ha!
