spring 2009 milan: versace.

collections Uncategorized

after yesterday’s post, i honestly wasn’t expecting much from versace. but then i was pleasantly surprised. donatella started moving in a new direction last season, exploring shapes away from the body in more of a mod-sixties feel. this time around, it was more architectural: dresses were sculpted to form a tiny waist, skirts were box pleated or a-line in stiffer fabrics, and pleats were created using zipped edging or in fabric “hearts.” the skinny capris, sleek jackets, and slinky gowns were still there, but in a new, sexier, more tailored way. the color palette was also grown up: bight yellow, light blue and dusty purples were mixed with white, gold, bronze and black. the only part that didn’t work for me as much were the julie verhoeven designed prints used at the end on deep v-neck gowns and swimwear. well you can’t have everything…
