after the blockbuster campaign that was balenciaga s/s 2006, all eyes were on nicolas ghesquiere to see who he was going to cast to star in the f/w campaign. the collection had garnered stellar reviews for its homage to cristobal balenciaga, and it seemed that not any old model could do the campaign. not so, according to ghesquiere as he cast relative newcomer coco rocha in an only girl campaign.
as much as i loved this collection, i’m not in love with the ad campaign. i don’t know if it’s the casting of coco (who isn’t one of my personal favorites), or the layout, but it isn’t working for me. i would have much rather seen freja or even irina (she wasn’t a favorite of mine early on, but she has a distinctive look that seems to match the collection).
