last month, i wrote about moving to a new place, and being. i’m excited to be partnering with allmodern on decorating my living room. right off the bat, i knew i wanted a minimalist vibe so the victorian details of the room really stood out. i kept my couch from my studio, which is a nice rich navy velvet, and wanted to be deliberate in keeping that the only pop of color in the room. the fireplace is so stunning and obviously the centerpiece, so i used that as the grounding palette.
the first thing i did, even before moving in, was measure the space. there are certain details that i needed to consider, like the sliding door between the living room and bedroom (which i decided to close off), the windows (the light in the apartment is amazing, but it does create a bit of glare). once i mapped out how i wanted to lay out the space and came up with a loose moodboard, the fun part of shopping began. normally when i’m decorating, i like to take my time to source all the right places, but the good thing about allmodern is they have such an amazing selection. the previous coffee table i had was in more of an industrial vibe, dark, and a little wide for this new space. i swapped it out for this gorgeous marble and wood one. a coffee table without extra storage also forced me to edit some of the books and magazines i had, so i went with impact with this oversized case study houses coffee table book (which was one of the first birthday present i gave to d). i also love featuring this vintage silver tray that i bought at portobello market a few years back…it’s the perfect spot to hold candles and my matchbook collection.
i haven’t had a proper dining area in a while and had gotten used to eating at my coffee table, but i wanted the option to not only entertain but also work somewhere other than my desk (which is in the bedroom). i found this table on wayfair, and the alisa slat-back chairs were simple and sleek and again, didn’t add bulk to the room.
the rug was something i searched high and low for, as i wanted something very particular but it also needed to be a specific size to work in the room. i had actually seen this rug very early on at allmodern, but it was out of stock so i kept looking. thankfully the allmodern site has a way to sign up for an email when an item on your wishlist or that’s out of stock is available again, and as soon as i got that email, i hit purchase. it’s a gorgeous cream wool that is so soft, and picks up the cream in the bouclé chairs and the other white tones in the room.
if you’re looking to update your decor, allmodern is having a memorial day sale this weekend where the bulk of the site is 20% off. i have my eye on a bench for my bedroom…among a few other things. i still have some finishing touches to add to the living room, like artwork, some shelves and replacing the overhead light, but overall, i really love this space. it feels sophisticated and warm, but has the minimalist look i love. and it feels like home.
