the theme of the milly show was “fractured,” and given the state of affairs in our country right now, that seems appropriate. but in looking at the clothes, there was a sliver of optimism in all the sequins and shine. the collection had a 90s grunge feeling to it, but in a sophisticated way—slip dresses paired with cropped sweaters, unique layering, a men’s button down worn backwards. it was about taking what you’ve been given, or what you have, and making do or making something better out of it. also, wearing a deconstructed fisherman sweater over a long beaded gown is brilliant, and showing some skin in unexpected places is even more sexy.
