girlshop.com,, the site and the store, are no more. even though the site is still live, word on the street is that owner laura eisman filed for bankruptcy protection. the store was a pioneer in selling breaking name designers, and presented the merchandise in cute “mini boutiques.” the store also spawned a guyshop and kidsshop. the store couldn’t stand up to the hoards of competitors that opened in recent years, including active endeavors, pink mascara, and the biggie, shopbop.
it’s unfortunate, because the other stores i named carry virtually all the same names (dvf, marc by marc, theory, seven for all mankind, etc). girlshop had some great indie labels, and had wonderful coverage of trends and extras. goodbye and good night to a web retail pioneer.
