the first gucci fragrance from creative director frida giannini is called, appropriately gucci by gucci. the scent is warm and exotic, which is two things you don’t get from looking at this ad campaign. shot by inez van lamsweerde & vinoodh matadin, it features raquel zimmerman, freja beha erichsen and natasha poly either lounging with or lifting a grossly oversized bottle of the stuff. after hearing the casting for this campaign, i was giddy with excitement. until i remembered that i can’t stand frida and that the house of gucci has done drastically downhill since the departure of my beloved mr. ford.
freja’s stare is off and her pose is awkward, raquel looks utterly bored and that the weight of the bottle will topple her over, and while natasha has the best look, she also looks like she’s having a hard time holding that bottle. sigh.
