tomato, tomatoe, let’s call the whole thing off.

Uncategorized

in the beginning, there was spring/summer and fall/winter collections. then came resort, that time when people jaunt off to exciting locales, go on “holiday,” as they say. now there’s something called “pre-fall,” which is the stuff that hits stores right before the fall/winter collections, and can serve as a starting point of what you’ll see on the runways later this month. wwd has posted some of the looks from the pre-fall collections, and i can see some trends emerging already.

the design team at chloe seems to be picking up where phoebe philo left off in the s/s collection. the silhouettes are looser and the colors still muted. i predict grey will be big for f/w.

over at ysl, stefano pilati explored a bit looser tailoring as well, while keeping a strong emphasis on the waist, and continuing a trend seen in f/w 05: tights with sandals.

john galliano went a bit more rock ‘n roll with slim suiting and lots of fur, while at lanvin, alber elbaz is also embracing a less restrictive silhouette, and the appearance of another f/w 05 trend: evening dresses with boots.

what’s going to be big for f/w 06? here are my predictions:

– lots of grey, from charcoal to heather
– the pencil skirt and fishtail hems
– a continued emphasis on the waist
– muted, earthy colors: browns, mustard yellow, pumpkin, bordeaux
– platform shoes
