facchinetti backstage at s/s 05 gucci
the valentino group has named alessandra facchinetti creative director of valentino. in her new role, she will be responsible for the couture, ready-to-wear, red and roma collections. they have also promoted long time accessories designers maria grazia chiuri and paolo piccioli co-creative directors of accessories. stefano sassi, ceo of the valentino group had this to say to vogue.co.uk:
We believe that we have chosen a design team able to give strong creative content and that Alessandra Facchinetti is the designer who can interpret and continue the legacy of Valentino’s core values at the best.
after her infamous departure at gucci following tom ford, facchinetti has been creative director at moncler. it was rumoured that valentino’s choice was zac posen, but posen seemed to have fallen out of favor with premira, the group that bought valentino. personally, i’m glad…for valentino and for facchinetti. i think her aesthetic is much more in line with the house, and after what happened at gucci, i’m excited to see her back in front of a major house. her first collection will be f/w 08.09 in march.
