s/s 2011 new york: lela rose.

lela rose’s spring collection was inspired by peru, and it showed up in the use of textures and sunwashed colors, as well as in the names of the shoes the models wore, which were straight from her payless collection. loreto is a striated wedge heel with ankle strap (below); magdelena is a raffia wrapped wedge, olaya, a t-strap wedge with an iconic peruvian navy/cream woven textile, and oliops, a satin t-strap cocktail shoe.

the earlier looks had anoraks, blouses with mondrian-like cutouts, draped pencil skirts, striped slouchy pants, and abstract paint pattern spaghetti strap dresses. mixing prints and transparency were strong themes as well, as striped pants mixed with floral tops, and a rugby striped dress had transparent panels mixed with solids. i loved the solid cocktail dresses in deep teal, lemon, and tangerine. her gowns were red carpet ready: a bustier with a flippy knee length skirt, nude princess gown with paillettes, a black embroidered tulle cocktail dress that appeared to be netting, and a warm grey check draped gown with shadowplaid overlay and a floral applique. my favorite look was the jeweled gray tank worn with an ombré asymmetrical hem skirt with chiffon layers (far right, below). it looked frothy and fun, and perfect for a impromptu cocktail party.
