jack mccollough and lazaro hernandez at proenza schouler are clearly in an eighties state of mind with a punkish collection that seemed to be influenced by alice dellal. all the girls had side swept hair with deep red lipstick, and each exit was accessorized with their new collection of bags and shoes. there were quite a few jumpsuits–in slick black leather or silk parachute material, with bold black zippers and loosely cuffed legs–but the real deal was the mix of hard and soft that they explore every season. there were sleek pencil skirts, leather bra tops, high waist tapered leg pants, and zip front coatdresses, along with lantern sleeve blouses, banded hem harem pants, and oversized belted blazers and trenchcoats. and at night, instead of tiny minis, they showed long black and white beaded halter gowns, sequined t-shirts (an extension of fall/winter), and silk pajama pants. it was more disjointed that fall, and not all of it is wearable, but it’s fashion-forward, which is why i am excited about fashion week in the first place.
