the prada spring/summer 2005 ad campaign (below) has long been one of my favorites—so much so that it occupied space on my wall for years. the cast of diana dondoe, karen elson, shannan click, and elise crombez reflect the eccentric nature of the collection in a simple way. feathers, bucket hats, and “nerdy” colors seemed to fit right in with the painterly backgrounds, and the single shots not only showed off the clothes but showcased the individuality of each woman.
like the 2005 campaign, the spring 2013 campaign also features a simple backdrop (this time black or cool grey) along with a diverse cast of established (amber valletta, eva herzigova, sasha pivovarova, kirsten owen) and newer (vanessa axente, sung hee, irene hiemstra, maartje verhoef) faces. the consistent thread in both campaigns? photographer steven meisel, who knows exactly how to capture the complexity of the clothes while bringing out the best in each model in a perfect, airbrushed way. see the entire campaign here.
