the one thing: the stefano pilati years.

the one thing Uncategorized

some of the shoes created by pilati include the tribtoo hidden
platform pump, the wood heel pump from fall 2007, tribute platform
sandal, “mohawk” platform pump, and saint germain loafer.

it was announced on february 27 that yves saint laurent’s parent company, ppr, would be terminating its contract with creative director stefano pilati and shortly thereafter former menswear designer hedi slimane was named the new creative director of the house. it signified the end of a creative yet tumultuous period for both the house and pilati, who dodged rumours that he was being replaced since april 2010. i was definitely sad to see pilati go; even though i was a fan of the tom ford-designed collections for ysl, pilati took the house in a new direction but that still felt brand appropriate. more importantly, after years of being in the red, pilati developed it shoes, bags, and other accessories season over season that pushed the brand into the black. here are some of my favorite ysl collections from the pilati years:

i am hopeful that pilati will find an outlet for his creative talents, either by taking over another fashion label or by starting his own line. he is truly a talent that the fashion world needs to see more of.

ysl bags were top sellers, like the muse, downtown, muse II, and rive gauche
