the one thing: on the fringe.

the one thing Uncategorized

on friday at lunchtime, i went to an event at neiman marcus and had some time to kill afterwards, so i wandered upstairs to the designer floors. the store has been remodeling and updating its designer boutiques, and it was fun to ooh and aah over some of the collections, like tom ford, celine, and givenchy. on the way back down, i spied a gorgeous set of dresses out of the corner of my eye, and they were by bottega veneta.

as with bottega bags, the clothing has sophisticated yet understated feel, and as with most of tomas meier’s collections, it’s not as simple as what you see on the surface. the fall show, had a sixties vibe (see beehive hairdo’s, white tights, and drop waist dresses) but with a subversive twist (black lace over jackson pollock-esque splatter prints, frayed edges, and shredded bodices). i’ve included some detail shots, but these are the kind of clothes that need to be seen in person and up close, so you can admire the handwork and craftsmanship that went to each piece. and while they’re definitely out of my price range, at least i know i can go visit them at neiman’s or the new bottega boutique on geary.
