in the wake of their of brand-new new york flagship (and the limited-edition pirated bags that went along with it), gucci is upping the ante with two new stores in the san francisco area. the first is in the san francisco airport’s international terminal, the first of its kind in the country. according to janet mullinax, ceo for dfs group (the duty-free company operating the store), gucci chose sfo for “its sleek design…and its very much in line with modern luxury.” the airport store only sells handbags and accessories, ranging from wallets and dog leashes to diamond-encrusted watches.

the second is a 11,800 square foot flagship just up the street from the original store. the brand is phasing out the tom ford-designed stores (full of black and silver); creative director frida giannini dreamt up a newer, warmer gucci: dark rosewood, black marble, bronze glass, polished gold, and lots of light. in addition to housing all of gucci’s offerings, there will also be exclusive flagship products and a vip area with a concierge. the lovefest will begin in early fall.
