a decent vogue cover? well, it only took a year or so, but finally, a cover that doesn’t make me run for the hills (or at least for vogue paris or italia). kate bosworth looks fresh, healthy, and very pretty on the february cover.
the inner contents aren’t the typical celeb-themed shoots (celeb on the range, celeb in the tropics), but instead kate is photographed with nine up and coming designers, including doo ri, phillip lim, derek lam, the mulleavy sisters (from rodarte) and jack and lazaro from proenza schouler. yes, i know none of these designers are “up and coming,” but that’s besides the point. the shoot is fun and inventive and a breath of fresh air.
too bad the rest of the contents are as boring as watching paint dry. we get another 10 plus pages of natalia vodianova in a blah ed by craig mcdean, agyness deyn hangs out with british hotshots christopher kane and jonathan saunders (newly named the next target go international designer), and catherine “one-look” macneil does an accessories ed with raymond meier. this issue also features one page on georgina chapman’s recent wedding to harvey weinstein (i was expected much more…she has a bigger feature in feb’s bazaar), and the index focuses on three hot new jewelry designers (including vogue fave genevieve jones). all in all, it’s not a horrible issue..the horrid eds and the great cover feature cancel each other out.
