ad campaigns are the thing that show the world who you are in one image (or spread). many fashion companies spend millions of dollars for the right celebrity, model, photographer or stylist to make their ad stand out among the rest (or make a poorly received collection all the more buyable). other designers build momentum by making really fabulous clothing, and don’t spend a cent on the glossies, relying on the red carpet or the “whowhatwear” method to create a buzz. proenza schouler went the latter route, getting their pieces photographed on chloe sevigny, the traina sisters, lauren santo domingo and handing out their covetable ps1 to mary-kate olsen, leighton meester, et. al. and this season for the first time, they are doing an ad campaign. photographed by daniel jackson, features up and coming models ann and kirby kenny and tati cotliar in various hipster girl poses. i love the moodiness of it, the weathered set and the subtle spray paint-meets-neon that the logo sits on top of. sometimes good things do come to those who wait.

reed krakoff is a name that most in fashion circles know, in his role as the current creative director of coach. now, after staging his first runway show and prepping for the opening of his first store, krakoff is looking to establish a look for his brand. rather than turn to a new face, he went with the always consistent stella tennant. the pose is relaxed yet confident and sophisticated, and the set harkens back to krakoff’s love of interiors and architecture. it’s a fitting introduction into the world of reed krakoff.
