i’ve been lucky to work with the wayfair brands—wayfair, joss & main, and all modern—for the past few years. even before i collaborated with them, i was a customer; it’s a great destination for everything you need for your home no matter what your style is. now that i’m in a larger apartment, i have the space to deck it out for the holidays and do more entertaining.
joss & main recently asked me about some of my holiday traditions and decorating tips and to share some of my favorites from their holiday edit.
joss & main: what signifies (drum roll, please) “the holidays” to you? Is it the dropping temperature, the lights going up downtown, or nat king cole and bing crosby on the radio?
km: for me, it’s the holiday movies (usually the godfather trilogy, the family stone, die hard, and a christmas story are on repeat), and traditions i’ve started since being in san francisco, like going to the fairmont to see the 2-story gingerbread house and 12′ tree.
joss & main: what’s special about this year’s holidays? any intentions or big goals for this season?
km: i’ve been less focused on getting lots of gifts and more intentional with my time. i can’t wait to spend time with my nephews and family back east playing with legos and get to new york for a few days. i love checking out new art exhibits and all the holiday windows.
joss & main: is your home feeling ‘winterized’ yet? how do you plan on adding more cozy elements to your home?
km: not quite yet! since san francisco tends to stay in the 60s through early november, the chill hasn’t set in yet. i always stock up on my favorite candles (i’m into woodsy and balsam scents this time of year) and just got a new cozy throw.
joss & main: where do you get your inspiration from for holiday decorating? do you lean more “little women” with handmade orange slices and primitive garlands—or go classic with cream tones and clean lines a la cameron diaz in “the holiday”?
km: since my home is more on the neutral side with pops of color, i would say it’s more minimal in terms of decor. i’m leaning into more neutral tones and textures like cream, soft metallics, and wood, with pops of a deep red.
joss & main: what products from the joss & main holiday collection resonate with your decorating style? how would you incorporate them into your home?
km: i have a fireplace in my new apartment, so i’m excited to decorate it with garland and stockings, plus tabletop decor for my coffee table. and of course a tree! i’ve fortunate to have high ceilings, so a tall tree is a must!
thanks again to joss & main for reaching out, and make sure to check out their holiday edit for lots more pieces to get your home holiday ready. what’s your holiday decorating style?
