at balenciaga, nicolas ghesquiere went in a direction that wasn’t futurist or archival, but somehow, as is the case most of the time, was light years away from everything else that has been on the runways this season. the collection included knitted faux leathers, tunics with plastic paillettes, slim pants with exposed seams, thick knit sweaters, folded and draped skirts (with the of-the-moment mid calf hem), and colorblocked dresses. and with any balenciaga collection, it’s all about the details, like the flat chain handle puffy quilted clutches and the strappy stilettos.
