you know what they say—great collection…

Uncategorized

the balenciaga f/w collection was pure genius. gorgeous little black dresses, sleek pants, futuristic draped velvet tops, sleek shoes and shiny bling. when i heard charlotte gainsbourg was going to be in the ad campaign, i was optimistic. i didn’t hate last season’s ads with jennifer connelly, but charlotte has modeled before, and i thought she’d bring an interesting rock-n-roll touch to this very structured collection.

well, i saw the first pic, and read that nicolas ghesquiere had used his new l.a. shop as a backdrop for the ads. ok. the store has a sleek feel (not as much as nyc), and charlotte has a tight chignon and fierce smoky eye courtesy of pat mcgrath. nothing is wrong with that. but…

somehow seeing pics of this, it doesn’t work. charlotte seems too stiff, as if she’s unconfortable in the clothes. i wanted to see more contrast between the austerity of the collection, and the casualness of charlotte. click below for all three.

and although she looks robotic, the theme was definitely more successful in the s/s 07 campaign with coco rocha. coco looks like an android plopped down in suburbia, ready to strike down anyone in a mini-van. oh, and she’s a model.
