when in spain…

Uncategorized

the adage “better late than never” could certainly apply to vogue, because even though this issue is coming out way late and i’m not fond of the cover subject, the inside editorials are, in a word, gorgeous. vogue has brought back two heavyweights and one star on the rise for this issue.

daria stars in “masterpiece theater” shot by mario testino where she plays muse to painter george condo. it’s an interesting take on the artist idea that vogue does every month. usually it’s a studio shot of the artist, then images of their work. i like the way daria is integrated into the story and she’s wearing lots of pieces from resort.

next up is gemma ward in “precious gemma” by norman jean roy in a jewelry ed that also features some standout looks from the spring collections (and has gemma doing some spring cleaning). my favorite is gemma working on her recycling (in balenciaga) and making some new keys (in burberry prorsum).

finally there’s doutzen kroes, featured in may’s the next new supermodels cover and prominently in vogue since then. her ed “the luster factor” shot by patrick demarchelier has the dutch beauty in a golden afro wearing metallic looks in a studio. hey, at least she’s not jumping around…and it’s not caroline trentini!

and yes, the cover is cliché but it is joyous in its own way, and in that regard, perfect for a decemeber cover. i will say i hope vogue moves on the better things in the new year. for all the talk of the next new supermodels, vogue seems to be featuring the same old girls all the time. i would love if they picked up with bazaar is doing, and have some variety. maybe this issue is the start of that.
