spring 2006 menswear: prada and yves saint laurent.

can anyone stop miuccia prada? it’s almost like the rest of the fashion world is trying to catch up to her. the mens collection she presented for miu miu was a throwback to the 80s, all skinny shiny suits and shirts with pushed up sleeves matched with pointy toe oxfords and loafers. there was even a slick tie in to the prada collection in the form of the star prints, but this time more refined. add some cuffed shorts, ties tucked haphazardly into shirts and collarless tops, and it’s like 1983 all over again, complete with the depeche mode soundtrack.

over at yves saint laurent, stefano pilati had boys acting like men, in grown up cardigans, suits and tuxedos, in gorgeous shades of slate, cream, khaki, navy and black. no gimmicks, no tricks, just wonderfully romantic, relaxed clothes fit for the riveira.
