s/s 2009 paris: dries van noten.

collections Uncategorized

up until today, i had yet to be really wowed with the spring shows. sure, there were some great moments (marc jacobs is forefront in my mind), but nothing truly mindblowing, nothing with the impact of fall’s bottega or last spring’s lanvin. that is until i saw dries van noten today. it wasn’t the flower power explosion of last spring, it was very methodical yet relaxed and easy. white shirts and tees formed the base for many looks, and were paired with long skirts or slouchy shorts and ankle length pants. pattern came in the form of oversized checks in black and white or pixelated in ombréd colors like violet, mustard yellow, lilac, cream, black, and orange. i loved the popover tops, knee length colorblock skirts, the relaxed blazers with gold beading, and the obi-belted trench coats.

he toned down the color at night, focusing instead on graphic black and white, showing delicately gold beads on black cocktail dresses, beaded shorts, cutaway bracelet sleeve jackets, low neck jumpsuits, and a gorgeous draped one shoulder gown. it was a collection of exactly how i want to dress next spring…chic, easy, relaxed, colorful and french.
