when you think of all-american sportswear, you usually first think of michael kors, but this season, you may think of an unexpected name: tommy hilfiger. rather than showing typical sportswear–bright colors with flag motifs and denim–hilfiger took a sleeker and more updated approach. he took staples of summer wear–the trench, capri pant, and tunic–and elevated them. he mixed them with silk cropped pants, belted shirtdresses, halter neck malliots, rope belted wrap dresses, and easy shorts. and the color palette (black, white and traces of mandarin and lemon) had nary a vulgar bright in sight. i hope this means a calmer, gentler tommy in seasons to come.
