narciso rodriguez is celebrating his ten year anniversary this year, but instead of doing a big flashy party (a la calvin klein), he just did what he does best: presented a fresh spring collection with a ninja theme. some of the pieces had a sliced effect using black and white stripes, but he also explored some star prints (like japanese shuriken) in floaty day dresses and evening gowns. pants were skinny and ankle length, tops and dresses featured cutout backs and dresses had bustier bodices with waist “bands” that flowed into silk bubble skirts. my favorite section was the beaded cocktail dresses, going from a sprinkling to more dense coverage, in graphic two tones (black/white, black/orange, black/kelly green), and a short white one that would make a modern wedding dress. here’s to narciso’s next ten years.
