s/s 2009 new york: marc jacobs.

no smoke, but plenty of mirrors at the marc jacobs spring show, and those mirrors reflected americana throughout the years, from prairie chic to nineties grunge, but seemingly firmly rooted in the forties and domestic life.

it was utterly chic and fresh for a collection with so many “vintage” references. classic button down shirts, high waist ankle pants, calf length skirts with ruffled hems, obi-belted jackets, apron-like toppers over dresses, elbow sleeve knits, and bermuda short suits. the ombré plaids mixed effortlessly with gold metallic stripes, red and blue metallic tapestries, and delicate blue/yellow/black florals. at night, there was a gorgeous saint laurent-like pantsuit with cropped pants, along with pretty silk jersey draped dresses in peach and silvery grey. everything was topped with a stephen jones hat, chunky bracelets, platform espadrilles, and handheld bags in quilted leather, leopard or zebra prints. it was a feast for the eyes, and marc made sure no one left the table hungry.
