s/s 2008 paris: balenciaga.

after seeing the resort collection, i knew the futurism phase nicolas ghesquiere was not going to be so literal for spring, and i was right. he’s reinventing his urban warrior from spring 07, but in a new way. a prettier way.

check out the stitch detailing on the skirt above. it’s a controlled volume that’s very flattering. it has an armor like effect, like those stitched together in ancient times.

you may have thought you saw the same dress in different prints, but you didn’t. the details were not the same. stitching here, ruching then pleating on the puffy shoulders there. suits with cap sleeves or bracelet length, jackets with large drawstrings at the neck. her used archival balenciaga prints, but done over…newer, fresher.

the end section was superslim darted scuba tops and skinny, skinny ankle pants and minis, reminiscent of ghesquiere’s scuba collection, but again, reworked and made better.

of course the shoes were crazy…they always are. what i liked: they’re an updated version of these. expect to see these on an olsen twin or vanessa traina.
