s/s 2008 nyc: rachel roy.

collections Uncategorized

long out of the shadow of rocawear, rachel roy’s extremely ladylike collections went in a more artistic direction this season. the looks featured painterly pieces like a silver sheath with studs and mesh cutout panels, white jacquard tuxedo dresses, multicolor paintbrush accents on a white dress, a mustard pleat neck mini dress, grey bracelet sleeve jacket with a chain and rope belt, and a herve leger like skirt with grey bands worn with a yellow draped top.

the presentation was also interesting, with girls mingling around mannequins and roy’s husband damon dash, who was taking pictures of the whole thing. i loved the colors (brights like magenta and mustard mixed with metallics and white) and the silhouettes (mostly skirts with one pair of silver gaucho pants mixed in). one has to believe that roy’s prices are probably going up to match her taste level, and that’s a shame, as the line used to be a bit more affordable. what i believe she’s doing now is starting to separate herself from the herd, and making her line worth the splurge.
