spring 2006 new york: j. mendel and calvin klein.

j. mendel
, the furrier, started doing ready to wear three seasons ago, and each collection has gotten better and better. for spring, gilles mendel crafted cute chiffon flippy skirts and paired them with broadtail, mink or chinchilla trimmed boleros or coats. for evening, the glam gowns were in full force: tiny pleated silks with empire waists, bustier bubble skirted dresses, and double layer chiffons with deconstructed hems.

the heat caused vogue’s anna wintour to walk out of the calvin klein show, which is a shame, because designer francisco costa put on another fantastic show following his stellar f/w presentation. he used a mostly neutral palette (save the shots of emerald and royal purple) to craft lovely empire waist dresses, full skirts and shorts and caftan-like tops with a circle motif. the end of the show featured circle sequin jackets and embroidery, pale grey line and chiffon long shirts over short skirts, and micropleated dresses with full hems.
