when i first saw the photos from the michael kors pre-fall collection, i wasn’t sure it was really from michael kors. he’s usually about more of a glamourous, jet-setting woman; you’ve seen the ads with karmen pedaru—off in a helicopter to st. barth’s in a slinky dress or getting into a limo in a 70s-esque jumpsuit. the pre-fall collection is right up my alley: tomboy chic. the palette of neutrals (grey, black, camel) with hits of light blue (my favorite new neutral; see these pumps) and red was basically all the colors i love or am starting to love (like red). belted cardigans, sleeveless coats, brocade trousers, asymmetrical hem skirts, chunky knits—i want it all. but even better, i can recreate many of these looks with pieces already in my wardrobe. now that’s a win-win.
