spring 2007 london: biba and giorgio armani.

bella freud brought out her friends for her debut at biba; too bad the clothes didn’t live up to the hype. the original line by barbara hulanicki was fun, disposable and cheap, and this is definitely not. most of the collection was done in black and cream, with touches of olive green, lemon yellow, steel blue and grey, and the looks included ankle skimming dresses, double breasted coats, swingy turtleneck minis, 40s style shirtdresses, and corduroy suits and knickers. There was also a star print resurrected from an old biba store that was splashed onto belted coats, silk shirts, and newsboy caps.

giorgio armani also brought out his friends — bono, beyonce, leonardo dicaprio, 50 cent, ashley judd — for his emporio armani show, moved to london and acting as a fundraiser for the RED initiative to raise money for the global fund to fight aids, tuberculosis and malaria. the clothes, all in a palette of black, white, red and grey, were also all short: short dresses, pleated shorts, shrunken jackets, tiered taffeta dresses with matching three-quarter length jackets, crop bustiers, slip dresses with metal rings, and striped empire waist minidresses.
