harpers bazaar has started its new year with uma thurman, looking radiant here in the subscribers cover (i guess they’ve decided to continue with the two different covers…i wonder if it really has an impact). not really sure what movie she’s promoting, or if she’s just talking about her life as a single mom and companion of andré balazs.
inside is bazaar’s semiannual tribute to the best collections from paris, milan, and new york. usually two out of the three cities are excellent with the other not quite there, and the tradition continues this time around. sasha pivovarova shines in “the news from paris” by anthony ward (not one of my favorite bazaar photogs)
it’s great to see liya kebede back in the pages of bazaar, and even though she’s in the studio, she really works it in “highlights from milan” by terry tsiolis (styled by former proenza schouler collaborator samira nasr). finally hana soukupova does an ok job in alexi lubomirski’s “trends from new york,” but the mix of studio and outdoor shots feels a bit clunky (especially since she’s moving in some shots and standing still in others). the outdoor shots with the blurred motion are really interesting. all in all, a solid issue and a great way to start off the year.
