it’s never too early…

to start thinking about fall ad campaigns. some designers, like vuitton, burberry, and fendi are following the adage “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” while others are trekking into new and interesting territory.

vuitton is using scarlett johannson for the second straight season, and her third season overall. a bit disappointed in this decision, as their fall collection was one of my favorites, and i was hoping marc would return to models, as he’s rumoured to be doing with his namesake line. karl lagerfeld loves raquel zimmerman so much that she’s repeating as the fendi girl and will also star in the upcoming fendi fragrance campaign. and at burberry, christopher bailey continues his british “aristocracy” theme with stella tennant, kate moss and georgia frost repeating their roles. i can’t even remember the last time burberry did a campaign without miss moss.

on the other side of the coin, christian dior is going with canadian model jessica stam in an only girl ad shot by craig mcdean. one can only hope the ads are more exciting than the current ones with gemma ward. yves saint laurent is also trying something new after stefano pilati’s very well received show. gisele bündchen will appear in the fall campaign shot by my favorites inez van lamsweerde and vinoodh matadin (who are also shooting chloé and givenchy again this season). after seeing some preview pics of the shoot, i’m very excited about seeing the final product.

bite your tongue if you think celebrities have gone away in fashion ads. lindsay lohan is set to star in ads for jill stuart’s new “couture” line, and wwd announced that milla jovovich will be appearing in chanel’s f/w accessories campaign (diane kruger is in the s/s ads). angelina jolie is continuing her role as st. john’s face, and penelope cruz and sister monica are appearing in ads for spanish retailer mango.
