wang’s basics in his spring 08 and f/w 08.09 shows

first there was proenza schouler, then phillip lim, now alexander wang is currently the cool kid in the fashion world. his collections have been selling like wildfire, his muses include victoria traina, erin wasson (both have styled his runway shows) and kate moss. usually the next step in cool kid-dom is branching out, into accessories or with lower priced lines. wang is launching both next spring. his lower priced line, called t by alexander wang is all cotton basics, for girls who would usually spend over a hundred bucks on a row or rick owens t-shirt will now be able to get a similar aesthetic from wang for under the roman numeral c. and unlike the olsens line, which is devoid of any color, wang’s versions will not only come in white and grey, but lavender, chartreuse and cerulean.

shoes will be available in about five stores, with a mid-level pricepoint (think marc by marc range), and a decidedly punk approach. the small range has only five styles for now, all variations on the platform sandal, with fringe and rings. both lines are smart next steps for a brand that was in danger of being branded a neo-grunge line, and his spring show next month will definitely be on my must-catch list.
