spring 2007 new york: michael kors and rodarte.

the “king of american jet-set fashion” michael kors presented a spring collection that was more light and airy and inspired by daners. looks included asymmetrical hem dresses with knotted waists and intricate draping, tulle or lace circle skirts, belted swimsuits, sequined capri leggings, oversized mens blazers, glittery blouson dresses, and light cashmere coverups. for night, he worked similar silhouettes in silk charmeuse, and added empire waist strapless dresses, deep v-neck gowns, and belted sheaths.

laura and kate mulleavy of rodarte were inspired by artists thomas gainsborough and robert rauschenberg, but the result was a collection that was more opulent and less wearable than their previous outings. fabrics like silk moire and heavier were structured in silhouettes that stood away from the body: bubble dresses with frayed edges, sheer bell sleeves, allover rosettes, and suits with dropped belted waists, flyaway sleeves, and standaway hems.
