sasha pivovarova has long been the face for giorgio armani cosmetics, but this season she makes the leap from beauty to fashion, in a stunning ad shot by longtime armani collaborators mert and marcus. usually they can be a bit heavy handed, but there is a nice mix here of the etherealness of the dress with the icy gaze of sasha (along with the smoky eye courtesy of pat mcgrath).

the s/s 08 gucci collection was horrible, one of the worst imo. so that begs the question, how to make a bad collection look great in an ad campaign? you hire one of the best photography teams (inez and vinoodh), shoot natasha poly at an angle, and voila…you’ve got a pretty nice ad. the only thing wrong? natasha looks like her eyebrows were accidentally shaved off…i don’t think the blonde thing is working for her. check out the full sized pic here.

two of my favorite blondes are on the cover of the big september fashion mags, and they are opening up and trying something new.
gwyneth paltrow is back to her fashionista ways on the cover of w. i know alot of people aren’t going to like this cover, but i absolutely love it. her last few features in vogue were the typical english aristocracy that you expect from gwynnie, but this time she does the glam donatella route, complete with iron straight hair and fierce tan. greatly anticipating the inside pics, the article and other editorials…hopefully w will have them up soon.
ashley olsen shines solo on the cover of marie claire. while her sister has continued her passion for acting (signing on for a role on the showtime series weeds), ashley has pushed further in developing the twins’ fashion lines. inside, the 21 year old talks about their new contemporary collection elizabeth & james and the row, while working at their l.a. office, and then discusses her childhood, time at nyu and transition into an adult at the soho house in new york. she really comes off as someone who knows what she wants in life and developing her own voice. the pictures inside are also very cool…a mix of b&w and color and some eclectic styling…just like how she would dress.
