august means two things: new fall fashions and vogue’s age issue. except this year instead of focusing so much on age, they’ve gone “ageless,” choosing to show off clothing that works no matter what your age or lifestyle. and who better to represent the idea of agelessness than kate moss, who at 34, still models, causes magazines to fly off shelves and is still a style icon. yes, kate has grown up; she ditched the doherty and has been focusing on being a mom, working on her clothing line (with topshop, who is opening its first u.s. store in october) and the launch of her first fragrance. what’s unfortunate is i feel like it’s not kate in the pic…i want to see more of her uniqueness, or just more pics period (there’s only 2). that being said, she still looks gorgeous in the pics; i love the bardot hair and demure suits.
the most interesting thing in the issue is the main model ed, “graceful elegance”, where they portray vogue stylists of different ages, probably because each subject styled the model. what’s more interesting is elle did something similar in the elle shops section this month, having kate lanphear, et. al. make their picks of what they’re buying this fall.

the women of each decade are a more interesting mix than in year’s past: ziyi zhang (20s), sloan barrett (40s), chris evert (50s), mia farrow (60s), diahann carroll (70s), betty fussell (80s), and roberta mccain, mother of john (90s). also inside is amber valletta shot by steven klein (channeling a hitchcock blonde) and gisele by david sims (in a rather pedestrian ed). all in all, this is probably one of the best “age” issues in years, with a nice mix of models and good content.
