as someone who describes my personal style as tomboy-ish, it should come as no surprise that i love suits and blazers. back in high school and college, i loved to search vintage stores for the perfect oversized blazer—usually from the men’s department. i usually just make it work sans tailoring but this past february, i noticed many designers showing slouchier suits cut for women on the runway. tibi, long one of my favorite lines, presented a stellar collection with suit separates, but it was a continuation of an idea started in pre-fall. i had my eye on a few of the blazers from both collections, but my mind was made up when i saw the jasper blazer included in the nordstrom anniversary sale. it’s a lighter weight wool in a pale plaid that’s perfect for year round wear. the key for a piece like this is proportions—for someone more petite like myself, i like to wear something oversized with other items that are slightly more tailored or adding in some femininity like a short mini. if you’re taller you can get away with doing oversized with oversized like blair, but the important thing here is the accessories, like a sleek pointy toe pump and a mini bag. no matter your size or age, it’s all about putting your personal twist on any trend to make it your own.
tibi jacket (on sale until august 6), theory shirt (old, similar), zara pants (similar here and here), barneys new york sandals, chanel wallet on chain, vintage earrings, super sunglasses, armani rouge d’armani lipstick in 600
