resort 2010: celine.

collections

when we last saw phoebe philo, it was october 2006, and she had just delivered another stellar chloe collection, full of the girly clothing the cool chicks wanted to wear. she left the company to focus on raising her family, and her name has been brought up as many companies were searching for a new face to lead their brand. it was LVMH and celine that lured philo out of retirement, and she’s back in a big way. the old celine—proper, ladylike and very french—has given way to a more sharp and sophisticated woman, one who isn’t dressing for anyone but herself. the collection had a very focused palette (khaki and black with sky blue, cobalt, olive and cream mixed in) and the pieces, while more polished, still had bits of philo’s aesthetic: shirttail hem cargo shirts, functional anoraks, capes, ankle length pants, sequin tees, tweed pencil skirts, contrast lapel tuxedo jackets, and colorblocked cocktail dresses. the accessories were equally covetable: croc ankle boots and metal lock bag and snakeskin ankle strap pumps. after my first taste of the new celine, i’m defintely hungry for more.
