ah fashion week. i have feelings about it, but for now let’s gaze upon the gorgeous collection from brandon maxwell. initially known as a fashion stylist whose biggest client was lady gaga, maxwell launched his ready-to-wear line in 2015 and his star has been rising ever since. in 2016, he won the cfda swarovski award for womenswear and was a finalist for the lvmh prize. not bad for a self-taught, self-funded designer.
he dedicated his fall 2019 show to his mother, who has recently been battling breast cancer (one of the most touching moments from the week will surely be when he brought her onto the runway). it was a sparse collection, but was very focused. the thread of athleisure that ran through it was my ultimate version of the trend—sleek crop tops, racerback tanks, caped jackets, harness details, satin anoraks. all the pieces you need to feel like a superwoman.
