is there a piece of clothing that is stranger than the skort? even saying the word is almost guaranteed to make you break into giggles. skorts make me think of the lacrosse version that i wore for weeks on end, in a horrible double knit poly-blend that wasn’t what you wanted to be running around in on a humid summer day. phillip lim seems to love reinventing casual pieces from his youth into lux versions—first it was overalls, now he’s redone the skort in drapey silk and covered it in burnished gold sequins. i may not have bought something like this at first glance, but i couldn’t resist when i found it on gilt. i can already tell it’s going to be a year-round favorite, and i’m going to laugh a little each time i say i’m wearing a skort.
