quick hits from paris…

first there was stella mccartney, then phoebe philo. both of these designers put chloe back on the fashion map, with cute, girly clothes and covetable accessories. now with the departure of philo and new designer paulo melim coming soon from marni, the chloe design team’s job was to continue the tradition set forth with the f/w collection. not an easy task as one would think. the elements were all there: flowy sleeve blouses, jumpers, short beaded shifts, slouchy shorts and cropped trousers, big button vests, and short peacoats–but somehow the elements all mixed together seemed off. the colours were more fall like: cream, rust, mustard, teal, brown, and the styling was clumsy. despite that, there were some definite highlights: a short white natural waist dress with eyelet and beading, a sheer sleeve shirtdress with a chiffon belt, and a ruffled neck micropleated dress with velvet beaded waist.

christian lacroix was a study in bubbles galore: a circle print belted coat with full sleeves cinched at the elbow, the same print in a crisp cotton a-line skirt with matching shirt with puffy sleeves, a long abstract print gown with horizontal pleating at the hem, mod shoulder tie dresses. there was also a segment of shiny pink separates: slim skirts and pants and bermuda shorts mixed with lacroix’s signature wild florals, and asian print minidresses (mixed with the circle print).
