i love top and skirt combo’s but sometimes the effort of putting it together can be a pain. enter this combo striped off the shoulder dress from la vie, the sister line by rebecca taylor. la vie is a bit more casual than her main line (think denim, crochet sweaters, eyelet tops, logo tees, and ditsy prints), but not less polished. in taylor’s words, it’s “nyc cool with a parisian vibe.” in some ways, it’s perfect for california since it’s not as hard edged as i usually do summer (i.e., an all-black summer).
back to this dress, it’s a knit striped off the shoulder top with a cotton tiered skirt, brought together with a drawstring waist. you could use a belt to cover the drawstring to really make it look like two separate pieces, or throw a chunky fisherman sweater over the top for an entirely new look. it’s in a gorgeous washed black verging on steel blue, so you can wear it beyond summer —which is good because san francisco’s indian summer has just begun (we hit an all-time record high of 106˙ last friday!)
